jewelry and polymer food?

Journal Entry: Thu May 1, 2008, 7:21 PM
  • Mood: Stumped
So, jewelry is one of the things I do on the side and while browsing the deviant shinies i noticed an unforseen trend...

so what's up with the polymer food? don't get me wrong...i dabble in the cheap oven bake clay myself but if i made miniature food and shoved a jump ring in it i think i would hesitate to lable it jewelry.

Please dont misunderstand me...i think the cupcakes, sushi and other goodies are very well done and some look extremely life like...but it throws me off to see it next to sterling silver, gold and diamonds.

Maybe the jewelry section should be divided into a few more catagories...here are my suggestions

beadwork
polymer clay/glass
metal work
other

I dunno...as much as i would love to chew on one of those little clay confections if i'm searching for metal jewelry...i would like to see it...wouldn't you?

As someone who does glass, I see very little in common between polymer clay work & glass work. Please divide those two if you are fractionating the jewelry.

well...i only put those two together because there is a common "bead" thread between them...most PROFESSIONAL polymer clay creators seem to make custom beads (not food) and glass artists in jewelry seem to make beads as well...that's the only reason I put them together...I'm sure glass takes more skill than polymer clay which was kinda the whole point of this journal entry to begin with...but if deviant started to sort the art based on skill and time put in....

the skill/time section would be very small indeed.
